What You Need to Know

The Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election will be held on May 11, 2024. This is following the passing of its incumbent, Lee Kee Hiong, 58, on March 21 due to cancer.

Early voting was held on May 7 with 97 percent turnout, according to the Election Commission (EC).

The 14-day campaign period runs from April 27 to 11.59pm on May 10.This is the seventh by-election held after the 15th General Election in 2022.

The EC had previously stated that this by-election will see a total of 40,226 voters. The figure is further broken down as below:

The Candidates

Incumbent Kee Hiong defeated three challengers in the state elections last August by securing a majority of 4,119 votes.

The DAP assemblyman had represented and served in Kuala Kubu Baharu for three-terms, making the state seat appear as a stronghold for the Pakatan Harapan (PH) component.

However, this is the only one of the three state seats in the Hulu Selangor Parliamentary seat that is not held by the opposition. The parliament seat is also held by the opposition.

This May 11 will see a four-cornered fight between PH, Perikatan Nasional (PN), Parti Rakyat Malaysia (PRM) and an independent candidate.
