April 6, 2026 (Bernama) -- The Strait of Malacca remained the world’s largest oil transit chokepoint in the first half of 2025, with 23.2 million barrels of oil moving through it a day. Crude oil and condensate made up the bulk of that volume, while liquefied natural gas also flowed through the waterway in significant amounts.

Much of the crude oil and condensate was bound for East Asian markets. China, South Korea and Japan were the top destinations, with China alone receiving 7.9 million barrels per day. The strait remains a key route for energy shipments from West Asia to East and Southeast Asia.‍
