Fires or Hotspots in Sumatra and Kalimantan

September 4, 2026 -- Satellite data published by NASA’s Fire Information for Resource Management System (FIRMS) show that fires or hotspots were far more widespread across Sumatra and Kalimantan on Sept 3, 2026 than on Aug 1, 2026.

On Aug 1, detections were already concentrated in western and southern Kalimantan, with others scattered across Sumatra and Java. By Sept 3, they were much denser across southern Sumatra and large parts of Kalimantan, including West Kalimantan, which borders Sarawak.

Malaysia recorded comparatively fewer detections on both days.

The red marks indicate heat sources detected by satellite. They do not show the size of each fire or where the smoke travelled.
